(IntegrityPress.org) – Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez introduced a fresh batch of articles of impeachment targeting conservative Supreme Court Justices Samuel Alito and Clarence Thomas on Wednesday, July 10 over allegedly taking gifts from billionaire friends that went unreported and could potentially influence their decisions.
In the resolution, AOC accused Thomas and Alito of contributing to an “unchecked corruption crisis” suggesting that their behavior is now creating a “constitutional crisis” and threat to “American democracy.” America is a republic, by the way.
In her articles targeting Justice Thomas she accuses him of taking money, gifts, and other financial benefits from his association with his friend and billionaire Harlan Crow. She also accuses Thomas of failure to recuse himself from cases that his spouse may have a legal or financial interest in.
Her articles of impeachment targeting Alito accuse him of failure to recuse himself on matters in which he allegedly had a prejudice or personal bias. She additionally accused him of failing to report financial interests and benefits. Alito had recently been attacked for displaying an “Appeal to Heaven” flag which suggests a government in crisis.
Infamously left-leaning Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) joined AOC’s calls for censure of the high court and have been incredibly critical in the aftermath of major SCOTUS rulings that abrogate Democrat ideologies like the overturning of Roe v. Wade in 2022. Prior to that ruling, there was virtually no criticism of gifts or flag-flying behavior by the Justices.
Additionally Democratic lawmakers are exclusively targeting conservative members of the court for critique in the press and with their articles of impeachment. Biden-appointed Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson received nearly a $1 million advance for her unwritten memoir, as well as tickets to a Beyoncé concert valued at just under $4,000. Conservative Justice Brett Kavanaugh only earned $340,000 for his memoir.
Justices Sonia Sotomayor and Neil Goruch bring in income from royalties valued at $90,000 and $250,000 per year, respectively. Democratic critique is only aimed at their ideological opponents and all their ostensible concerns come with the heavy application of double standards.
