(IntegrityPress.org) – Dr. Anthony Fauci was facing tough questions from GOP Representatives during a public hearing on Monday, June 3, on Capitol Hill regarding how precisely the previous pandemic came to be. Republicans are concerned that Fauci used public funding laundered through independent private organizations to engage in gain of function research which is outlawed in the U.S. He was grilled on the subject under oath.
Democrats have suggested there’s nothing to see here, that Fauci is a treasured national hero, and that any scrutiny of his past might prevent him from working on the next pandemic disease. Given how he handled the AIDs epidemic, many commenters on X seem to believe that would be a good thing.
Fauci was grilled regarding the credibility of national health organizations after House investigators published emails from members of the National Institute of Health (NIH) wherein officials who worked under Fauci traded suggestions on how to avoid having their work subject to public records requests.
For years the official narrative that the previous pandemic came from a natural accident involving a Chinese market where live animals are sold as food products persists while the alternative suggestion that disease emerged from a laboratory engaged in Corona Virus research is favored by alternative thinkers.
U.S. intelligence agencies haven’t said either way, and claim there’s “insufficient evidence” to draw any proper conclusions. Fauci has claimed openness to both possibilities and told the committee that if there was “definitive evidence” he’d draw the concomitant conclusion either way.
Republicans also lambasted Fauci for lying about funding gain of function research and highlighted taxpayer-funded grants the NIH gave to a private firm called EcoHealth Alliance run by Dr. Peter Daszak. Daszak then used EHA to fund gain of function research with Corona Viruses in Wuhan, China, at a laboratory a few hundred meters from the wet market claimed to be the source of the outbreak.
Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (GA) had especially harsh words for Fauci, suggesting that he should be charged with crimes and “thrown in jail.”
