Long Serving Senator Dianne Feinstein Not Looking for Re-Election in 2024

(IntegrityPress.org) – Senator Dianne Feinstein, a well-known Democrat representing California, has announced that she will not seek re-election in 2024, after serving in the U.S. Senate since 1992. She stated that her focus remains on accomplishing as much as she can for California and its citizens until the end of her term in 2025. The 89-year-old senator is the longest-serving female senator in not just the history of the USA or California, but longest serving ever.

Feinstein mentioned that her priorities during her 2018 campaign included responding to the homelessness crisis, combating wildfires, mitigating the effects of the drought, and ensuring access to affordable health care for all Americans. She noted that while some legislation has been enacted on these issues, there is still much more to be done.

She also remains focused on passing legislation to address the issue of gun violence, promoting economic growth, and preserving California’s pristine and primeval lands. She also pledged to use her seniority on the Appropriations Committee to make sure California gets its fair share of funding from the federal government.

Feinstein emphasized her confidence in achieving these goals, citing her past accomplishments such as passing the 1994 Assault Weapons Ban, releasing the 2014 CIA torture report, preserving Lake Tahoe and the Mojave Desert, passing the first significant global warming legislation, and protecting student athletes from abuse, among others.

Despite congress’ constant divisions, Feinstein believes that it is still possible to pass bills that will improve lives. She said that each senator was sent to the Senate to solve problems, and that is what she has been doing for the past 30 years and plans to continue to do for the next two years. In light of her long experience as senator, and regarding this announcement, she also expressed her gratitude to the people of California for allowing her to serve them. She has implied that she’s determined to make the most of her remaining time in office and work towards improving the lives of millions of people.
