(IntegrityPress.org) – A 37-year-old Mexican national in the country illegally was recently arrested for a litany of crimes after he kidnapped and sexually assaulted his ex-girlfriend. Rene Cervantes-Medina of Lehi, Utah, near Salt Lake City, told his ex that he wanted to meet up with her and go to the bank so he could pay her back owed funds.
According to her witness statement, instead of going to the bank, Cervantes-Medina allegedly locked the car and drove to American Fork Canyon. On the way, he told her that he wanted to resume their relationship, which she denied. She then attempted to escape by jumping from the car and attempting to get help from another driver.
Cervantes-Medina was able to restrain her and told her that continued resistance would result in her death. He then forced her back into the car and drove deeper into the park, explaining his intention to engage in adult acts “the easy way or the hard way.” At some point later, she tried to escape again, which infuriated him, and he threw her to the ground, where her head hit a rock.
The blow stunned her, which allowed Cervantes-Medina time to assault her on the ground. He also smacked her across the face when she resisted, yelled, or cried, which resulted in injuries to her nose and lips.
Afterward, he drove her home and threatened her with murder should she reveal the incident to anyone. The sordid ordeal happened on June 23, according to the victim.
On July 11, Cervantes-Medina was arrested and denied bail due to an ICE detainer. He’ll face charges of sexual battery, sexual assault, attempted rape, threats, domestic abuse, as well as theft, driving without a license, and swapping vehicle plates to avoid legitimate registration and insurance requirements. The details of the charges against him can be seen here.
Alternative press contacted Salt Lake City’s ICE office and asked if they knew how or when Cervantes-Medina entered the country. They did not offer that information but told them that there was a DUI conviction in American Fork, Utah, in the spring of 2007.
Curiously absent is any mainstream corporate press coverage of the alleged assault. The story is primarily getting viral attention by being shared on social media.
