MMA World Rallies around Fighter after In-Ring Seizure

(IntegrityPress.org) – A UFC MMA fighter suffered a seizure after a strong right-hand punch knocked him out. Josh Emmett KO’d Bryce Mitchell in the first two minutes of their featherweight fight on Saturday, December 16th during UFC 296 in Las Vegas.

Shortly after being knocked out, Mitchell began to shake from a seizure. The response from the community was one of overwhelming support.

Former UFC champion Chris Weidman said it could be the worst KO he ever witnessed, and expressed his hope that “Bryce is OK.” Alajamain Sterling expressed shock, calling the incident “scary,” and also said he hoped he was OK. Dillon Danis offered prayers and words of support.

Mitchell received emergency medical treatment and went to the hospital. He issued reassurances later that evening to all his fans and colleagues that he was OK. He expressed gratitude for all the kind words and prayers and said he was blessed.

Emmett, 38, is only the second man to beat Mitchell who’s record now stands at 6-2.

Mitchell said he had no complaints after seeing other people in the hospital who had much more serious injuries. He said he was happy and healthy. Mitchell added that he had a lot of love and gratitude for everyone who offered support.

After re-watching the fight, which Mitchell said he doesn’t recall, he said he was happy that he wasn’t injured. In the video, Mitchell showed a barn that he was working on and said he was proud of his opponent, Josh Emmett, for not-following up after the KO. Mitchell said a follow-up hit could have killed him.

He expressed sentiments of appreciation for Emmett’s entire team. Mitchell added that walking away after the KO was the “more manly” thing to do. He added that it shows a sense of caring about your opponent in the ring. He thanked Emmett several times in the short video.

Mitchell also thanked Joe Rogan for commanding those gathered to keep Mitchell lying down so he wouldn’t stand up and possibly fall and reinjure himself. He said that he has no recollection of events until later when he was sitting on a gurney with medical staff.
