Nationwide Recall of Montreal Fudge

Several hundred units of Authentik Fudge’s chocolate fudge with nuts, branded as “Montreal Fudge,” have been recalled nationwide due to potential mold growth contamination. This urgent recall affects 840 units of the product and was announced by the FDA, emphasizing the immediate need for consumers to check their storage and avoid health complications.

Specifics of the Recall

The affected chocolate fudge was sold in a 5.6-ounce box featuring an orange top and a white printed background, showcasing an image of three fudge pieces and the text “individually wrapped.” The items were distributed between June 19 and June 20 to select Marshalls and TJ Maxx locations across 40 states. Consumer Action and Safety Measures

The recall was triggered by a consumer complaint reporting mold in an unopened box, and subsequent investigations found signs of mold in some remaining unpacked sealed products at the manufacturing site. Fortunately, no illnesses have been reported in connection with this recall. However, consumers who have purchased these products are urged to destroy them or return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.

This emphasis on consumer action is crucial to ensure that no affected products remain in circulation, as the mold contamination poses potential health risks. Vigilance from both consumers and retailers is essential in mitigating any possible adverse health effects.

Diamond Shruumz Chocolate Matched By Another Recall

In a parallel development, the FDA has extended a recall for an array of Diamond Shruumz-brand mushroom-infused chocolates and gummies due to the discovery of toxic levels of muscimol, a psychoactive compound from mushrooms. This recall is classified as a Class I, indicating a high risk of serious health consequences or even death.

“It is crucial that all of our consumers refrain from ingesting this product while we, alongside the FDA, continue our investigation as to what is the cause of the serious adverse effects,” Prophet Premium Blends

Since May 27, Prophet Premium Blends has received numerous complaints of illnesses following the consumption of their Diamond Shruumz products, leading to 39 reported illnesses and 23 hospitalizations across 20 states. The symptoms linked to the consumption of these mushroom-infused products are alarming, including seizures, agitation, involuntary muscle contractions, and abnormal heart rates.

Manischewitz’s Chocolate Coins and Safety Concerns

Furthermore, a voluntary recall has been introduced by the Manischewitz corporation for certain units of their dark chocolate coins due to potential undeclared milk. This recall is particularly significant for individuals with milk allergies or severe sensitivities, as the presence of milk in these products could lead to serious or life-threatening allergic reactions.

“Manischewitz reported its all dairy milk chocolate coins are wrapped in gold foil within a blue netting and all non-dairy dark chocolate coins are wrapped in silver foil within a red netting. This is an important distinction and should avoid some confusion.”

In all these cases, the pertinent authorities emphasize that consumers should remain highly alert and scrutinize their chocolate purchases and do NOT consume them if they’ve been recalled.
