Poll Finds Majority Supports Mass Deportation Of Illegals

(IntegrityPress.org) – Nearly two-thirds of Americans would be in favor of a mass deportation program targeting illegal migrants, a recent poll has found. The poll showed that 62% of Americans would be pleased to see all illegal entrants rejected from the country, a figure that includes some Democrats as well as Republicans and independents.

Record high levels of illegal immigration via the poorly secured southern border has become a hotly debated topic in the run-up to November’s presidential election. Republican frontrunner Donald Trump has promised to facilitate the “largest domestic deportation” program in American history. He says he will use the National Guard to eject illegal aliens from the country.

Even the incumbent President Biden has stepped up measures to reduce the flow of people across the US-Mexico border after overseeing the arrival of 7.2 illegal migrants since taking office in 2021. Early in June, 2024, he announced a new executive order that would prohibit the entry of migrants via the southern border once the average number of daily encounters had exceeded 2,500 for seven days running. If this is enforced correctly, it would still allow for 912,000 illegal migrants crossing the border per year.

During Donald Trump’s tenure as president, the peak number of border crossings came in 2019, when Border Patrol recorded 1.1 million encounters. Under the Biden administration the number has skyrocketed, hitting a peak of 3.2 million encounters in the 2023 financial year alone.

Trump’s promise to conduct the wholesale removal of illegal aliens stands in contrast to Biden’s approach to immigration throughout his presidency. Biden overturned many of Trump’s restrictive immigration policies upon taking office and has overseen a rapid increase in illegal border crossings ever since, as well as a decreased number of successful deportations.

Immigration has been a growing concern for Americans for a number of years. According to a Pew study conducted in February, 70% of Republicans and 22% of Democrats would refer to the situation at the southern border as a “crisis”. Around a fifth of Democrats wanted to see immigration level decrease, something that nearly three-quarters of Republicans want as well.
