Russian Diplomat Warns US Is at Risk
(IntegrityPress.org) – Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov understands the ins and outs of his country. With five decades of experience under his belt, the aging diplomat witnessed the perils of the Cold War, its end, and the rise of the new Russia under the authoritarian rule of President Vladimir Putin. One thing Lavrov knows for sure: US intervention in Ukraine is a risky move.
On September 21, Newsweek published an exclusive interview with the minister detailing his thoughts on the US and other Western countries intervening on Ukraine’s behalf. According to Lavrov, his government plans to look to its allies for support rather than try to pander to an international community that doesn’t understand the full weight of the action in Eastern Europe.

According to the diplomat, Western support for Kyiv has little to do with securing freedom and much more with geopolitical posturing. As two regions of Ukraine, Donetsk and Luhansk, allegedly seek independence, the country’s officials are too busy listening to American whispers to defend at all costs rather than to seek the will of the people living there. He likens the regions to the Crimean Peninsula, which Russia annexed in 2014.
Lavrov believes if the United States and its allies continue down the road, opposing everything and anything Russia does, there will be grave consequences on the international stage.
