Republicans Demand White House Turn Over Ibarra Documents

( – Republicans on the House Homeland Security Committee are putting pressure on the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to provide information and records about murderer Jose Antonio Ibarra. He is a Venezuelan national who entered the US and is currently accused of killing Laken Riley, a college student in Georgia.

According to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Ibarra was stopped by Customs and Border Protection (CBP) in September of 2022, around El Paso, Texas. He was then granted parole and freed to continue his processing. Ibarra was also detained by the New York Police Department on August 31, 2023, according to information obtained by ICE, on suspicion of injuring a minor and violating the license requirements for a motor vehicle. However, he was released before ICE could issue a detainer.

House Republicans are attributing Ibarra’s release to Biden administration policies, specifically highlighting the use of humanitarian parole, which is only intended for extreme humanitarian reasons, and not for illegal migrants.

DHS committee Chair Mark Green is currently asking for all relevant records from CBP and ICE, as well as information from the database of ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations and any other files regarding Ibarra’s status in the country. Green connects the murder to the broader issue of border security, stating that it underscores the committee’s serious concerns about the security of the whole country. He also talks about the potential for people, especially criminals, to exploit vulnerabilities created by the Biden administration’s open-border policies.

Green links the murder to the administration’s illegal mass parole program and charges Alejandro Mayorkas, Secretary of Homeland Security, of violating American laws and obligation to secure the borders. The Tennessee Republican insists that Congress and the public have the right to access these documents and understand why Ibarra was released into the country and how DHS responded to his actions.

The incident has since reignited concerns about the outpouring of migrants into the US and the crimes committed by them.
