Zelenskyy Requests 2nd Peace Summit To End War

(IntegrityPress.org) – During a NATO summit on Tuesday, July 9, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy told world leaders that another “peace summit” should be held, and that Russia should attend. Zelenskyy wanted to re-do a meeting similar to the peace talks held in Switzerland last month, and he thinks it needs to happen before America’s November presidential elections.

Zelenskyy was in Washington, D.C., for the meeting to thank the United States for its war aid while also angling for even more money and arms for America. He “warned” that the beleaguered nation will need yet more help in order to end the war.

Unnamed sources told media that Zelenskyy said he hoped Ukraine’s war enemy, Russia, would come to the peace talks. That seems questionable, considering that Russian President Vladimir Putin put together his own meeting in Communist North Korea at the same time the Switzerland gathering was taking place. Zelenskyy referred to that North Korean confab as a “war summit.”

The increasingly close relationship between Russia and North Korea is worrying to Western observers. North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un and Putin signed a mutual defense pact.

During his remarks in Washington, Zelenskyy thanked the U.S. and 101 other nations for attending the Switzerland peace talks, but expressed anger at Russia and North Korea for their “war summit.” He said the two nations got together so that Putin could get a hold of additional war material so that Russia can “hold on” until the end of the year. Zelenskyy appeared to be trying to portray his much smaller country as the obvious victor in this years-long war.

Taking a familiar tone that some have called entitled, Zelenskyy told the gathered world leaders that their countries “must react firmly” to Russia’s aggression. He even told the U.S. “it’s time to step out of the shadows.”

Ukrainian government officials have said that there will be another peace summit, but U.S. leaders said it was unlikely Putin or any Russian representative could be persuaded to attend.
