Multiple Injured In Gang-Related Shooting

(IntegrityPress.org) – Seven people suffered injuries during a gang-related mass shooting Saturday evening, May 4 in Long Beach, California. Officers responded to reports of gunfire around 11:15 p.m. and reported discovering seven victims, four with critical injuries.

Police reported that the injured were transported by emergency medical personnel or got themselves to the hospital. Three individuals had less serious injuries, it wasn’t clear if all the victims had been shot.

Witnesses described two males opening fire toward a group of people in statements released by the police department the following day. There were no known motives at this time but detectives are suggesting the event was gang-related.

Chief Wally Hebeish said they were working hard to find and arrest the offenders and that there was no tolerance for criminals using guns to victimize locals. Hebeish promised they would continue to work until arrests were made in the case calling the incident unacceptable.

The shooting happened near Paramount Boulevard and South Street and the suspects reportedly fled the area immediately after opening fire on a small group of people. All of the people shot and injured were men.

One witness reported hearing 15 to 20 shots fired. One of the bullets flew into a nearby club and hit someone inside.

Police are asking the public for help; anyone with additional information is being asked to contact Long Branch Homicide Detectives Sean Magee or Juan Carlos Reyes at 562-570-7244.

Gun violence has been a recurring problem in the community. Last month a 17-year-old girl was murdered during a walk home. She was shot and killed outside her apartment just after ending a FaceTime call with her mother. Police released surveillance video and an image of the suspect and the investigation remains ongoing.

Another 17-year-old boy was killed by police after he attempted an armed robbery on April 26 on Cerritos Ave after breaking into a home and threatening two adults and a minor inside the residence. An accomplice in the incident fled before police arrived.
